How to Make Office Chair Higher - Step by Step Instructions

Follow these simple steps on how to make office chair higher:

1

Determine the Proper Height

Start by determining the best height of the chair that is comfortable for you. Sit on it upright with your chair comfortably on the floor. Your thighs and calves must be at a 90-degree angle. Measure the length you need to readjust the seat and write it down.

2

Identify the Type of Chair

It’s also essential to identify the type of your chair. Older models have a thread post, while newer ones have levers for height adjustment just underneath. Some models don’t have either, which will be a little challenging to adjust. Taking note of the type of chair helps you determine the proper way to readjust it.

3

Consider the Height of Your Desk

Besides the proper height that you’ll be comfortable with, you also need to consider your desk. Some desks have a keyboard tray in it, which means the office chair has to be readjusted based on that. If it’s a standard desk, then correcting the chair’s height for comfortable seating will be considering the desk’s height.

4

Detach the Seat from the Chair Bottom

Bring your chair to a place you can efficiently work on it where there’s a towel or cloth for cushioning. Take your screwdriver to open the chair’s mounting screws, which holds it to the bottom part. Once you’ve separated the seat from the bottom part, put it somewhere safe.

5

Adjust Height by Spinning Threaded Post

For an office chair with a threaded post, start by putting it upside down and lubricating the post. Clean excess oil using the rag, so the chair won’t slip while you work on it. Place a foot on the chair’s base, then turn the post either clockwise or counterclockwise.

Depending on the seat, turning the post will adjust the height up or down. Continue spinning the post until you reach the height you want. Consider if you measure the height correctly and turn again if not. It might take a few spins, so continue until you reach a comfortable height.

6

Raise Height by Attaching Wood Pieces

Some office chairs don’t have a threaded post or levers. In that case, adjusting the height will take some creativity. One way to do that is by placing a wooden piece between the bottom part and the seat. Get the drill and make a hole in the middle of a wood piece, enough so that the long screws can pass through.

Prepare wooden pieces equal to the number of screws. Once you’re done drilling, reattach the seat to the lower part of the chair. Do this while also connecting the wooden pieces between the two parts. Attach the screws and nuts to secure both the seat and bottom section. See if you’ve raised the seat height correctly.
